World Could End Wednesday

Fear and paranoia is building to a potentially dangerous level as European Nuclear Research Centre (CERN) scientists seeking answers related to the universe’s origins prepare to officially flip the switch on their Large Hadron Collider (LHC) this coming Wednesday.

More pointedly, CERN officials have begun receiving frantic phone calls, e-mails and even death threats from those who staunchly believe the massive underground machine could create black holes capable of consuming the planet.

The Large Hadron Collider, which is the largest particle accelerator ever built, is a giant ring constructed just outside of Geneva and around 300ft below the Swiss-Franco border. Originally offered up as a concept in 1994, the collider has cost somewhere in the region of $8 billion USD to develop and create.

Once switched on, it will circulate atomic particles around its 17-mile circumference at more than 11,000 times per second before then smashing those atoms into each other to simulate the first moments experienced by our universe immediately after the Big Bang.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Professor Brian Cox of Manchester University has revealed that Frank Wilczek, an American Nobel prize-winning physicist from MIT, has received threats against his life with regard to Wednesday’s launch of the groundbreaking collider.

James Gillies, the head of communication and spokesman for CERN, has also said that he trawls through tearful phones calls and e-mails every day from concerned members of the public looking for reassurances as to the survival of mankind. Some of those people contacting CERN can also be aggressive.

Gillies said that: “There are a number who say: “You are evil and dangerous and you are going to destroy the world.”

Levi Taps Bristol, McCain Taps Palin, GOP Tapdances Around Double Standard

America's teen pregnancy epidemic will continue to intensify as long as politicians deny those teens access to information. Forced abstinence is an unrealistic solution.
There are those who traditionally condemn the parents of unwed mothers, dropouts, underage drinkers. Their silence this week is deafening. In this case, the parents are a drunk driver and a woman who has an infant, a history of fanaticism, a wealth of inexperience, and who will potentially be a 72 year old heartbeat away from the most demanding, unforgiving, exhausting position of responsibility on the face of the planet. BUT her judgement must not be questioned.

This is all none of my business....

McCain fought money on teen pregnancy programs
By SHARON THEIMER – 48 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican John McCain, whose running mate disclosed that her unmarried 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, has opposed proposals to spend federal money on teen-pregnancy prevention programs and voted to require poor teen mothers to stay in school or lose their benefits.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's announcement Monday about her daughter Bristol was aimed at rebutting Internet rumors that Palin's youngest son, born in April, was actually her daughter's. Palin said her daughter intends to raise her child and marry the baby's father, identified in news reports as Levi Johnston, 18, of Wasilla, a high school hockey player whom Bristol has dated for about one year. The baby is due in late December.

McCain's record on issues surrounding teen pregnancy and contraceptives during his more than two decades in the Senate indicates that he and Palin have similar views. Until Monday, when the subject surfaced in a deeply personal manner, teen pregnancy and sex education were not issues in the national political campaign.

Palin herself said she opposes funding sexual-education programs in Alaska.

"The explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support," she wrote in a 2006 questionnaire distributed among gubernatorial candidates.

McCain's position on contraceptives and teen pregnancy issues has been difficult to judge on the campaign trail, as he appears uncomfortable discussing such topics. Reporters asked the presumptive GOP presidential nominee in November 2007 whether he supported grants for sex education in the United States, whether such programs should include directions for using contraceptives and whether he supports President Bush's policy of promoting abstinence.

"Ahhh, I think I support the president's policy," McCain said.

When reporters pressed McCain whether the government should provide contraceptives or counseling on contraceptives, he replied, "You've stumped me." McCain said later that he was sure he opposed government spending on contraceptives.

The McCain campaign on Monday did not respond to repeated requests for information.

In Senate votes, McCain has opposed some proposals to pay for teen-pregnancy prevention programs. In 2006, McCain joined fellow Republicans in voting against a Senate Democratic proposal to send $100 million to communities for teen-pregnancy prevention programs that would have included sex education about contraceptives.

In 2005, McCain opposed a Senate Democratic proposal that would have spent tens of millions of dollars to pay for pregnancy prevention programs other than abstinence-only education, including education on emergency contraception such as the morning-after pill. The bill also would have required insurance companies that cover Viagra to also pay for prescription contraception.

McCain voted for the Family Support Act in 1988, which passed overwhelmingly in the Senate and required teen mothers who receive public assistance to remain in high school and, in some cases, to live with their parents.

"Young parents who have not completed high school will be required to stay in or return to school to complete the basic education so necessary to a productive life," said President Reagan, as he signed the law in October 1988.

Sarah And The Caribou

Once upon a time a little girls Mommy took her hunting. It was a beautiful Alaska day, fresh air skipping across the permafrost. The sun shone brightly on the pristine tundra. The youngster was filled with excitement, so many different sights and sounds! She saw a stunning herd of caribou, bountiful thanks to Mom's support of aerial wolf hunts.
There was one particularly majestic creature who stood out from the rest, wide eyed and running through the crisp arctic air. Mom got off a good shot and blew it's brains all over the snow. Here's a cute shot of them inspecting the corpse.....
